Tennis Update: Roger Federer still optimistic about the remainder of the season
Despite the fact that Roger Federer failed to perform up to par this year, the Swiss man still seems to be positive for whatever it is that remains, as far as the season goes.

As communicated to the press in Hong Kong, “I’m a strong believer that when I’m at my best I can beat anyone, I can even dominate anyone but there’s many guys around that play really, really well and Rafa, being the number one guy, is a tough guy to beat,”
said Federer.

The Swiss maestro got off to a good start this season, clinching the 2010 Australian Open title. With Rafael Nadal out of the way due to a knee injury, Federer made his way through to the championship final, defeating Britain's Andy Murray 6–3, 6–4 and 7–6(11),
three sets in a row.

Things however, took a downward turn for Roger from there on in. Sweden's Robin Soderling eliminated Federer from the 2010 French Open, defeating him 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 and 6-4, in the quarter-finals at Roland Garros.

Furthermore, Roger's on-court rival, Rafael Nadal, defeated Soderling 6-4, 6-2 and 6-4 to take the Men's singles title. History somewhat repeated itself, however, this time in the form of the 2010 Wimbledon championship. The Czech Republic's Tomas Berdych went
head to head with Federer, defeating him 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 and 6-4 in the quarter-finals, to proceed to the semi-finals and face Nadal in the Wimbledon final.

Annihilating Berdych, 6-3, 7-5 and 6-4 in the finals, Rafa went on to bag his second grand slam title of the year. Additionally, Roger failed to make it past the semi-finals at the 2010 U.S. Open as Serbia's Novak Djokovic pulled a rabbit out of the hat, defeating
Federer 5-7, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 and 7-5 to book a place for himself in the championship final.

Much to Roger's dismay, it was yet again Nadal who went on to clinch the 2010 U.S. Open Men's singles title, defeating Djokovic, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 and 6-2. Marking his third grand slam win of the season, Rafa came to be the youngest ever player to have achieved
a career grand slam in the open era.

Nevertheless, Federer doesn't seem to have lost hope. Seeded no. 3 at the Shanghai ATP Masters 1000, Roger stated, “Stories in tennis move around very quickly. I went through a bad patch as well and I got back to world number one by winning last year’s French
and Wimbledon and playing really well through the American summer as well.”

The Swiss star has proved time and again that he is more than capable of achieving anything he sets his mind to. Hopefully for Federer, his reign still hasn't ended and the professional will rise in terms of his performance and continue to stun.
