Tennis Update: Russian Tennis Star, Sharapova is back to be the best
The former world number one Russian tennis star, Maria Sharapova, is finally grabbing the right amount of luck to clutch the lost prime. Currently participating in the WTA (Women Tennis Association) tournament being held in Ohio Cincinnati, Maria showed her old class and talent. In the match, Maria clutched a thrashing victory over a veteran rival Agnieszka Radwanska, who was the seventh seed for the tournament as well. By winning the match in a conquering way, Maria has made her way through to the quarter finals of the two million dollar mega event.
It was a match that everyone waited for, not because to see two tennis aces fighting hard against each other but because the crowd wanted to see the old touch of Maria Sharapova. The sun was shining and the temperature was making the game much harder, as tennis game becomes more stamina jolting when the weather is hot and humid. Sharapova played confidently and showed her dominance over the match in a very blunt manner.
The Russian tennis ace grabbed the victory over the seventh seeded Radwanska by 6-2 6-3 pretty convincingly. Sharapova secured the first set pretty easily by claiming two break points. In the second set, her opponent Agnieszka Radwanska bounced back strongly and gave her a very strong challenge. It was one and a half hour match and people witnessed the best of Sharapova, as she saved and broke two break points by the Polish opponent. Sharapova produced brilliant serves and shots throughout the match and made the match quite one sided.
After progressing into the top eight stage of the tournament, Sharapova will now face some major challenges. The twenty three year old Russia’s ex- world number one will now face French veteran performer Marion Bartoli. Bartoli is no doubt in a very good form and has the ability to turn a match upside down in no time. Bartoli has already beaten the second seeded for the tournament, the Danish ace Caroline Wozniacki and made her place in the quarter final stages. The match was considered to be an upset in which Marion Bartoli disposed her opponent Wozniacki by 6-4 6-1.
This tournament has shown some great talent to the tennis lovers and has displayed some massive upsets as well. The victory of talented emerging player from Uzbekistan Akgul Amanmuradova over the top seeded Jelena Jankovic, was one of the major upsets of the tournament as well. Akgul secured the challenging victory over Jankovic by 7-6 6-4. Akgul Amanmuradova will now face the Serbian ace and former world number one Ana Ivanovic in the quarter finals. The match between Akgul and Amanmuradova is assumed to be a good match because Ivanovic is enjoying her new refreshed winning form and Akgul is well confident to set an assault over any opponent after winning against Jelena Jankovic.
In other matches of the WTA tournament Yanina Wickmayer from Belgium made her way to the quarter finals of the tournament by beating Li Na by 2-6 6-2 7-6. The match was a real test for both of the tennis aces, as both fought hard to grasp the control over one another. Italian Flavia Pennetta also showed her class and skills by beating the Russian tennis sensation Vera Zvonareva in a two set match pretty compellingly by 6-4 6-3. Pennetta will now play against the winner of the match between the veteran tennis star Kim Clijsters and American Christina Mchale in the quarter final.
The quarter finals stage of WTA tournament is going to be hot and thrilling as participants are now feeling the right gush of blood for the victory. The calibre of the matches being played is getting sharper and sharper with every match. The winner of the tournament will definitely prove her strong existence and contender-ship for the upcoming Grand Slam.
