Tennis Update: The South African Open Title- Anderson will be back in 2011
Feliciano Lopez, of Spain, will be back with a vengeance come 2011. Yes, the Spaniard is all geared up to try and hold off the competition for his South African Open title revealed the Tennis SA on Wednesday. In 2011 the tournament will be held at Montecasino,
in Johannesburg.
According to Sport24, a South African news reporter, Lopez will be the tournament’s top dog. Ian Smith, the director for the tournament is very pleased with this piece of news. “Considering that the Australian Open is played just before our tournament,
which makes top-20 players hard to acquire, I feel we’ve put together a most competitive and interesting field,” said the director.
“I have little doubt we will be witnessing some remarkable tennis during the first week of February.”
The tournament is all set to take place from January 31 to February 6. Tennis South Africa seems to consider Lopez to be a very strong contender this upcoming year as well. Last year he seemed to have all the right moves figured out and he found the perfect
altitude. The faster courts and Feliciano Lopez seems to be a match made in tennis heaven.
“He is an exciting player to watch and has had some outstanding results this year, notably a straight-sets victory over world number one Rafael Nadal at the Queen’s Club at London in June,” say the Tennis SA officials.
Joining the Spaniard on the field this year will be World Number 61, the South African Kevin Anderson. The South African people are particularly fond of Anderson, who was missing from the action last year. Keeping in mind Anderson’s current form, we are
sure he will give the South African’s a lot to cheer about and give Anderson a good run for his money.
One other player who will be adding a little more spice to the South African affair is the 2008 finalist Jeremy Chardy. The French player had to pull out from last year’s event due to an injury. We sincerely hope the coming year will bring some luck for
the player and we will see him reach the finals again.
However, come tournament time all eyes will be glued on Yen-Hsun Lu. The Chinese player has been one of the most exciting players to watch on the courts this year. His performance at the Wimbledon this year has left a deep impression on the minds of fans
and critics alike. He not only reached the quarterfinals but also took out one of the top contenders and the 2008 finalist for the event, Andy Murray.
