In the other matches of the Montreal Rogers Cup, Caroline Wozniacki clutched a successful victory against the rival Patty Schnyder by 7-5, 7-5 in a very interesting match. The world number two had to face a very strong challenge by Patty Schnyder but it was her unique skills that came in her way and let her win the match after a stamina wrecking fight. After the match, the world number two and second seed for the tournament Wozniacki told the media that it was a very good match for her, as she has given her best to clutch the victory. Later she admired the game of her veteran Swiss rival Patty in the match and said that she is an outstanding player. Wozniacki added that Patty is a very sharp and clever player, as she plays remarkable shots and changes her rhythm to make the game even confusing for the opponent. She added that Patty is a very difficult player to play against and she is happy that she has been able to defeat such an incredible player.
On the other hand, the defending champion and tennis ace Elena Dementieva grabbed the victory from her veteran rival from Czech Republic, Klara Zakopalova by 6-2 6-4. Dementieva who is seeded fourth for the event thrashed Klara pretty convincingly.
Dinara Safina also managed to sail through to the next level of the tournament by beating the eighteenth seed Nadia Petrova. Dinara griped the victory by 7-5 4-6 6-4. This win is a sign of hope and glooms for Safina, as she has been facing problems with her injuries and bad playing form. The back to back wins of Safina in the Rogers Cup will certainly give her a strong confidence boost for her upcoming matches. The former world number one tennis ace from Russia has been facing back injury problems from the past one year and it has seriously affected her mental and physical fitness. Her win in the current Montreal Rogers Cup is news to cherish for her fans because finally they have been able to see their favourite tennis player in her old impressive style.
After winning the match the current world number seventy, Dinara Safina told the media that it was a very special win for her as she fought to her best. Later she added that it was a three set match which was no doubt a test for her, as she has been facing injury problems but the victory came at the right time. Later the twenty four year old Russian added that her rival played a very nice game and gave her a very strong challenge but she is feeling happy to win the match finally, which is truly amazing.
In the other matches of the event Schiavone hammered Ekaterina Makarova by 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 and the tennis star Azarenka beat Maria Kirilenko by 6-4 6-1 pretty convincingly.
