Tennis Update: Three Australian tennis professionals banned from Australian Open wild card playoffs
According to the Herald Sun, three Australian players namely, Brydan Klein, Dayne Kelly and Nick Lindahl have been barred from the 2011 Australian Open wild card playoffs. Klein holds the title for the 2007 Australian Open boys'
single whereas Lindahl was the runner up at the 2006 Australian Open in the boys' singles category.
Dayne had furthermore, been suspended for the past six months for referring to a South African professional as a 'Kaffir' apart from spitting at his coach and an another player at a tournament in England. Nick has apparently been posing similar problems. Klein
also showed his violent streak after having recently lost a tournament in New Zealand. The professional was said to have smashed his racket apart from having sworn at and battling courtside photographers.
As stated by Tennis Australia's Todd Woodbridge, "This action has been taken following reports of numerous accounts of unacceptable behavior at tournaments both locally and internationally over the past few months. All players
are expected to abide by Tennis Australia's code of ethics and behavior. The opportunity to participate in the Australian Open playoff is a privilege, not a right. This decision will send a clear message to all Australian players that breaching this code will
not be supported by Tennis Australia through the granting of wildcards or other financial support."
In the year 2010, Klein bagged three International Tennis Federation Futures. The professional defeated fellow citizen, John Millman winning the match based upon a 6-3, 3-6 and 6-3 win in Little Rock, Arkansas, USA.
A month down the line, the Australian got through with compatriot, Jason Kubler beating him 6-3 in the first set and 6-4 in the second to clinch his second title in Queensland, Australia. In addition, Brydan defeated Dane Propoggia,
7-5 and 6-3, two sets in a row to win at Bundaberg, Australia in the month of May.
Lindahl has five ITF Futures to his name. However, the last tournament Nick won was in the year 2008. The Australian defeated fellow countryman Marinko Matosevic, 6-4 and 6-0 at the 2008 Australia F9, prior to which Nick clinched
the Australia F5 title that same year beating companion Brendan Mckenzie, 6-1 and 6-2.
