The professional tennis players, Dinara Safina and Nadia Petrova won their Thursday’s respective singles clashes of the WTA Korea Open Women tennis tournament in Seoul. They were one of the top four seeds to prevail in the second round clash on Thursday.
The professional tennis player from Russia, Nadia Petrova who is seeded number one to win the title at the WTA Korea Open Women tennis tournament dispatched off her American foe, Vania King in a total of two sets. She won the opening set comfortably without
much effort, and then rallied from 0-3 in the next to confirm her spot in the third round of the Korea Open. The final match score was 6-3, 6-4.
Petrova, as a result of this victory has also successfully managed to take revenge of her loss at the hands of Vania King and Yaroslava Shvedova in the title battle of the United States Open tennis tournament this year in New York. The Russian was teamed up
with Liezel Huber.
The former top-ranked tennis player, Dinara Safina on the other hand, continued her comeback from injury by getting the better of her compatriot tennis opponent, Maria Kirilenko in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-2, 6-3. Maria was seeded
number three to win the title at the Korea Open tennis competition.
"The previous time we faced each other it was not that long, in New Heaven just prior to the year’s final Grand Slam, the United States Open tennis tournament in New York,” said Dinara who is a wildcard entrant in Seoul and who lost that one at the hands
of Kirilenko.
"She performed better than me in today’s clash. The good thing in the game of tennis is that every week there is a fresh championship. I realized what I actually did wrong and will hopefully try to do better in the future,” said Maria.
In some other action, the last year’s winner Kimiko Date Krumm from Japan hammered down Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova from Russian in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-2, 6-1.
Elsewhere, the Russian tennis player Ekaterina Makarova ended the championship of her fourth-seeded tennis foe, Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez from Spain, whereas Agnes Szavay also managed to defeat Elena Baltacha from Britain in straight sets.
