Tennis: Williams’s sisters true representatives of US tennis
There must be a party at the Williams residence. Serena knocked down the Russian Tennis ace Vera Zvonareva 6-3, 6-2 to grab her thirteenth Grand Slam trophy and reconfirmed her number one position in the world’s ranking.
As the top seeded American held the trophy, her farewell words for the spectators were, “ wishes always comes true, the only condition is to focus on your goal and keeps on struggling”.
How factual it is.
America is always searching for the next tennis star from their country. The media questions, "Who is the representative of USA tennis?".
It is definitely not Andy Roddick. Since his parting with Brad Gilbert he hasn't been the same Roddick. He triumphed in the United States Open back in 2003 but that remains his only major tournament victory.
The media actually wanted to dub Melanie Oudin after her superb performance at last season’s United States Open championship. However, a single excellent performance and contesting in Fed Cup do not get you acknowledged. Continued success actually does.
The tennis world has embraced Maria Sharapova as the honour of tennis. However, according to analysts, it is not even a topic of massive discussion. Without any debate, Serena Williams is the real representative of American tennis and the Williams' sisters continue to take the sport ahead.
Some people do not want to accept the fact that Williams’s sisters are the representatives of USA tennis. However, it does not matter whether they admit it or not, as the fact still remains.
The story of the Williams sisters is the essence of the game of tennis in the United States of America. Both the Williams sisters have certainly ruled American tennis for the last couple of years. Together, they have triumphed in almost half of all singles Grand Slam championships along with a combined total of twelve Grand Slam doubles trophies.
Over the last ten years, one of the Williams sisters has been a part of the Wimbledon final every season accept on one occasion. Serena or Venus as a result has a total of nine trophies out of the last eleven ones. Out of these nine titles, Serena Williams has earned four of them while Venus owns five crowns. However, as far as their world rankings are concerned, Serena stands at number one, whereas, her older sister Venus is at ranked number two.
This is simply incomparable as Oracene and Richard Williams have raised not one, but two top tier winners. There is certainly no other game that has had two top class players in a single home.
Moreover, the Williams sisters have ruled the sport that was extensively over shadowed by the whites. Traditionally it's been a milky white game that hasn't catered to African-Americans. In spite of its White history, the William sisters have lifted the sport to amazing heights and they actually did it in their own peculiar manner.
While it's simply superb to see the Williams sisters rule on the court it's an embarrassing situation that the pipeline isn't being packed with such players who although have the flair but lack the courage and passion needed to excel.
As dreams never become reality unless you work hard and according to Serena Williams, “We both sisters have worked day and night to be here and yes if you work hard, there is no one in the world who can stop you from achieving your goal”.
