Question:

Tennis Wrist Hurts!!! Need New Strings!?

Okay first off i'm a small kid at 5 feet.

I use the Babolat Aeropro Drive Cortex Racquet. (Nadal Racquet)

I string it at 58 with Luxilon Big Bangers Alu Power.

I have wrist problems now because the string is so powerful and control king but is my favorite strings because i only play well with them so far.

Would Stringing it down to a 54-56 tension be better?

Can anyone reccomend a more arm forgiving string but with the same excellence as the Luxilons?

  1. Sure, those strings are not known to be the most comfortable thing ever.  But before I go blaming the whole situation on your strings, I'd analyze some other things.  Make sure you are using proper form.  Always keep a firm wrist. Never use your wrist to create spin.  Do you use a vibe dampener?  You might see if one of those helps.   Also, is it just a temporary pain?  When I was younger, there were several times where my wrist started to hurt.  For a couple days, it would bother me to move it too much.  But then it got better.  I didn't do anythng for it, and there's not been any lasting damage.

If you really do think that the strings are the issue, I would suggest trying out a hybrid set.  These combine a durable string for the mains (up and down strings) and a softer string for the crosses (side to side).  You would want to use your luxilons for the mains.  Then get something else that's soft, like Prince's Premier softflex, or Lightning XX (sorry, i'm most familiar with Prince's strings - you can look for any similar strings from other brands).  Just experiment with some hybrid sets until you find something that plays and feels the way you want it to.

  2. If you want a few more strings:

    Polyester:

-Babolat Pro Hurricane Tour: slightly softer, more spin than BB orig

-Luxilon: try a hybrid.  Use BB orig mains, and put some Luxilon supersense in the crosses (sold as a hybrid)

    Multifiliment:

Gamma Zo: nice soft hybrid, lots of options

Wilson NXT/NXT tour: soft, touch and feel, not too durable

Another thing: check your swing, if you use too much wrist, you will still have wrist problems even with a different string.

    That help?
