The Cincinnati Masters is proving to be a chance for all the tennis veterans to test their skills before the upcoming Grand Slam. Until now, most of them have been able to work over their potential but the room for improvement is always there. For this very reason, the participants are fighting even harder to get over one another. Top seed players like the Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray have certainly raised the caliber of performances in the tournament. These great four have also made their way into its third round.
The current world no. 1, Nadal showed his remarkable skills and class by thrashing his U.S opponent Taylor Dent by 6-2, 7-5. While talking to the media after the match, he expressed satisfaction on his planning and execution of the game. Nadal said that he had waited for the right time to play his game as he found it difficult to gather the right winning rhythm in the beginning of the match. He commended Dent for putting up a strong challenge. The Spaniard will now face Julien Benneteau of France in his next match at Cincinnati. Julien is definitely not an easy target for him either as he showed his talent pretty impressively in his match against Stanislas Wawrinka defeating him by 6-4, 6-2.
While talking about Benneteau, Nadal admitted that the Frenchman doesn’t seem to be an easy opponent but he is very well aware of his talent and capacity. He added that despite the match against Benneteau being a tough one for him, he will be trying to give in his full with an aggressive approach.
On the other hand, Andy Murray thrashed Jeremy Chardy by 6-3, 6-7 (3/7), 6-2. Murray, the winner of Toronto’s Rogers Cup later said that Chardy has improved a lot as he made the match difficult for him during the second set by playing brilliant shots. The Swiss champ and legend Roger Federer also advanced to the next level of the tournament when his Uzbek rival Denis Istomin retired due to a foot injury. Federer was delighted on this and said that it’s a good luck sign for him.
The Serbian tennis veteran and world no. 3 Novak Djokovic was also successful in clutching victory from Viktor Troicki by 6-3, 7-5. Despite his win, Djokovic seemed unhappy and said that it didn’t prove to be a good match for him as he had made errors at regular intervals. He added that he was trying hard to play his best shots but was not finding the right momentum.
