  1. Money does not make a tennis player.  LOTS of hard work makes a tennis player.

  2. Yeah seriously, considering the American who got the farthest was ranked 88th (Robby Ginepri, who is from my home state, my dad beat him once when he was a junior haha).Oh, and why does it matter that James Blake is black? I'm pretty sure he's half anyway. Also, tennis is not taken seriously in the USA. At my school, tennis is obviously the best sport, the only one that consistently plays well. Our budget is US$2800, while the basketball team, which has NEVER had a winning season, recently bought a US$8000 shooting machine. How does that make sense?

  3. Tennis is not a major sport in the USA so they aren't attracting the best players.  Kids would rather play football, baseball, golf, soccer, and basketball before tennis.

  4. The American men have historically been weak at Roland Garros, except for the period between 1989-1999, when three different American men won there (Chang, Courier twice, and Agassi).  Prior to Chang, an American hadn't won the French Open since 1955.  But as far as the state of American tennis in general today, I agree that it's not looking too bright for the future.  Once the Williams sisters and Davenport leave the tour, there will be a huge void to fill.  The next generation of American women are nowhere near their level, and there are not even any standout juniors on the horizon to pin American hopes on.  As far as the men are concerned, Roddick and Blake are probably not going to improve much more, and the other guys (Fish, Ginepri, Querrey, Isner, Young), while showing promise at times, are not of the same calibre as them as far as I can tell, let alone that of Sampras, Agassi, Courier, Chang, and previous generations of American players.  One bright hope for the future though is Ryan Harrison, who earlier this year at the age of 15, won his first ATP Tour level match.  He looks like he could be great in the future, but we'll see.  The rest of the world seems to have the sport in their grasp for the time being.  Maybe it's a cyclical thing, and we were just so used to being in an American-dominated cycle of tennis that has since ended.

  5. It's not just the US players, mens tennis in general at the moment (and the past few years) is pretty sad. Apart from the top 3, and may be some upcoming youngsters, the rest are trashy players.

  6. First of all Nadal was playing with severe blisters when Ferrero beat him, with regards to the semi final we shall see on Friday won't we.

Typical french, full of arrogance and merde.
