Question:

Tennis commentary on the radio - does it work?

Well I just heard some Wimbledon coverage coming home in the car today on the radio station called Talksport. Don't know any names but it was 2 female commentators commenting on a ladies match.

It was just shocking... it was pointless... is it always like that I wonder. I can't really see how it could work, I have heard football or rugby commentary on radio and that works well, but these sports suit radio well.

The tennis... I just don't get it, its just a little bit above putting darts or snooker commentary on the radio.

  1. I agree. How could it work!

  2. Almost as bad as golf on the radio

  3. I guess it would be a bit like football coverage on the radio although a bit more predictable.  Football commentators tend to just give a list of names.

I should imagine that tennis commentary would be:

"Murray serves, to Federer, back to murray, federer, murray, federer, murray misses.  Murray serves, to federer, murray, murray hits the net" etc

  4. It's like being invited around your mate's house to play Pong, two days after going blind.

  5. I listened to the French Open final on Radio 5 live a few sundays ago, Federer and Nadal, it was strange as you could you know the outcome by the noise of the crowd before the commentators say it. I dont think it's for radio either. but when you want to know a result you cant complain!
