I am trying to figure out interesting facts about those of us who enjoy tennis. Hobbies, likes/dislikes of the game, what makes you wanna watch/play, what the newest is in the tennis trend world, really just unusual demographics rather than the typical gender, age, etc. for a paper I am writing. Any info would help, thanks!

  1. I love tennis all the way! Its a sport that I can do all the time and a sport that Im reallyyy good at! When I play I feel so powerful with the raquet in my hand and feel like I can do anything including the impossible with it! I play with my friends alot even though they arent really good and I play with my coach who is undescribably awesome! Im more of a player than a watcher but I will definately watch Tennis on a rainy day! Its my fav sport! =]=]

  2. Ah...Tennis.  Tennis is a game that is thought of as elitist, but it really isn't.  Anyone can play, tennis courts are almost everywhere, and beginners really can start out with very inexpensive equipment.

And who are these people that play?  Everyone.  Young/Old, Blue Collar/White Collar, Male/Female.  Tennis is truly the great equalizer.  In how many sports can you say, "the bigger, faster player might very well NOT win"? In fact, is there ANY other sport where men and women play with and against each other? (Mixed Doubles).

I believe some of the attraction is the "game" nature of the sport.  Like golf, it is both very simple and incredibly difficult.  It is a sport, but there is a "game" in there also...  You cannot just keep hitting the ball harder.  You have to put the ball over THERE, while your opponent is over HERE, and quite often a softer hit works much better.

    And so...

+ You have a sport, that is also a game (not all of them are, think about it)

+ You have both the youngest and oldest people (Probably the widest span of any sport?)

+ Physical size doesn't count for very much (very rare)

+ Even gender is somewhat negated.

  3. stripped to the core, it's a sport, like any other sport. why do people play any sport? why are people competitive?

what's different about tennis is that it's been associated with wealth, power and the good-life in the past. and it still is, to some extent.

it's also, largely, and individual sport with no one to blame but yourself. that might appeal to certain people.

it's also a great sport for social net-working. i've "wowed" a lot of wealthy, powerful people with my tennis skills.

  4. I used to play tennis for exercise. Now, I am old and I enjoy watching tennis in TV. I sometimes watch it in person here in Bangkok during the Thailand Open. I read almost everyday the updates of tennis news in the internet and the paper. I have few favorite players but I long for upsets in big tournaments because of the sensation and emotions that go with it.
