  1. A year ago I was asking this exact same question. Finally I decided to go out and it was the best experience of my freshman year. My team pretty much became my second family. At my school it wasn't overly hard.

We would warm up with a few sprints then go into drills. At the end we would sometimes play some sort of strategy or whatever game. I think the hardest part was learning the scoring system.

All in all if it is something you enjoy doing then go for it.

  2. I am currently a freshman

I just finished playing on my Varsity team this year, and I really made it through practice and a good coach.

I did pretty good, compared to other Varsity teams I was 3-1, and here are some really good tips.

Sprints (Best conditioning their is, this is tennis, running fast in short distances)

Try running like 5 suicides in a row

DDR  (Dead serious, the movement helps with reflex and footwork)

Basic Footwork Drills (Any coach should know these)

Groundstrokes are key, rally with people for atleast 10 hits.  Keep doing it, try to keep your hits, deep, with topspin.

    Serve

A person is only as good as their second serve, get a good first serve with speed, with a good percentage of in.  Practice making your second go to their backhand.

Definately play with a Coach, their drills will really help.  Talk to people on the team and find out what it is like.

Tennis isnt a hard sport, with dedication and practice you can get very good.  I went from about a 40 mile an hour serve to a 100 in a year, with a lot of practice.  So just keep trying and you will be fine.

  3. ...if you've never played tennis competively and your a freshman

u might not wana consider being a professional tennis player

anybody can be a pro tennis player

its basically just devoting your life to it

and trying to make as much money as you can

    by winning as many tournaments

    as possible.

    tennis

    CAN be hard

    or it can be easy.

it all really depends on your coach.

ive been playing for my school since 8th grade(finished jr season this year)

    and its not overly hard

our practices consist of drills etc.

not too much conditioning or anything

since just playing the game is an athletic competition, most coaches don't do much in the realm of conditioning

just be prepared to do a lot of running in the game

and realize that the jump from non-competive to competetive is massive

    but good luck!

  4. Its good that you want to play tennis. Now for highschool, you are going to have to run alot. I am a freshman this year and made varsity but you have to be in shape. Second you've played tennis before which is good. but try and take some lessons over the summer, that will improve your groundstokes and serve. Those aspects are most important in tennis. If you can't get the ball back into the court or if you doubl;e fault alot, chance are you won't make it. So Tennis is hard, but don't give up. Keep playing

Don't worry about the pros just worry about highschool tennis. But to become a pro start playing tournaments, and once you win local tourny you can now enter qualifying tournys. Those tournys are important because you have to win them to enter the main tournys like the french open or other ones you see on tv. From thier gather points and enter those tournys

  5. well i am in the same position as you are exactly like i have never played before but i am trying out for my hs team and im a freshman but i want to be a professional also anyways i started playing 5 weeks ago and i am actually way good it came naturally so i started tennis lessons and i was better then kids that have played for 2 years but i have practiced ALOT because i love it so much anyways. you become pro throughout tournaments like you play in a tournament and you win you start to get ranked and the more tournaments you play in and the more you win the higher ranking you get so if you want to be number one you play in a lot of tournaments and win them. but if i were you i would try out for the hs team and i would practice everyday but you should take lessons and practice for three hours on what you learned at that lesson everyday its hard work but it pays off.
