I want to be ready for my school's tryouts next year cause yea..

and like I never played tennis before but I have some time so any good advice? My friend has tennis rackets we just don't know any of the rules. Would it be bad if we just got started by hitting the ball to and from each other?

  1. What wouldn't hurt is getting a profesional coach i have been getting trained and i noticed improvment in the 2nd lesson.

You can also try playin actual games with your partner and practise serveing. Also try sprints up and down the court for fitness and agelity.

  2. shattle run

    hitting the balls in

    serving

  3. There's absolutely no way that your going to make the team, no offense. Some players are just too good. If you have no experience, you just can't expect to make the team that easily.

  4. If you can get someone that is better than you to rally with, that can help you a lot. Also, you private lessons can really help you, although they are very expensive. Some public tennis courts will give out free lessons on the weekends, so call, and see if you can get into those if you have them.

  5. Not at all.

  6. Give it a try but you should take lessons -- there is absolutely no substitute. Town rec programs offer affordable programs -- but if price is no object, go to a tennis center. If you learn how to swing properly you'll get some rallies going and won't spend half your time chasing errant balls.  If it's a no-cut team like a lot of HS teams now, you'll have a great time.

  7. Depends on your school. There may be many top players at your school who started tennis at a young age. In this case, you may not have a good chance. But if you don't know too many people who play tennis at your school at your grade level (or they're not so good) then I'd say you have a good chance.

Best way to practice is to rally with a partner. Focus on your forehands, backhands, and serving. Don't worry too much about volleys and all those fancy shots yet. Work on the basics. Always remember to incorporate footwork, as you cannot get lazy. Remember to always be in ready position when not hitting the ball, and try to return to the middle after a shot. Always remember to follow through on every shot, even the serve.

You can get started by watching a few tennis videos. They're always helpful for beginners. However, I do suggest taking a few tennis lessons at a community college or local park. When you play tennis, you wanna play it right, using the correct technique. You could try asking the varsity tennis players at your school for help. Perfect practice makes perfect, not just practice. PERFECT practice.
