i am in 9th grade and is on the high school boys tennis team. Recently, I switched from a continental grip to and eastern backhand grip to generate more spin on my kick serve. however, many times I end up shanking the ball on the frame. Any help on what I'm doing wrong and how I can fix it? thanks

  1. Shaking the ball on the frame is just the risk you take with a kick serve. I'm in 10th grade, I play varsity at the second best school in my state, and I still shank maybe 2 or three out of every ten kicks. Any coach I've ever talked to just says that its a risk you take with a kick serve. But I think the specific answer is that the frame is just a little to closed when you make contact.

  2. 1. most likely you drop your head (chin) too early, before contact.

    2. instead of hit down, you should hit up

    3. your toss should be above and slightly behind you head so you can use your legs and abdominal muscles as well.

But mostly is that you drop your head, try fix that first.

    good luck

  3. You're most likely dropping your head too early. try to keep your head up until you actually strike the ball.
