Tennis latest; Ana Ivanovic climbs to number seventeen in the world

The professional tennis player from Serbia Ana Ivanovic is ranked number seventeen in the world according to the new South African Airways WTA list released on Monday.
The Basel resident achieved her career high ranking of world number one back in 2008. She captured the French Open singles crown in Roland Garros two years ago and was also a finalist in  the French Open back in 2007 and the Australian
Open, a year later.
The right hander Ana, who made her debut on the WTA World tour back in 2003 is an offensive baseliner who is popular for her aggressive style of play. She was considered as one of the best competitors on the tour back in 2007 and
2008. Her serve is regarded as one of her strongest weapons, without a doubt.
Ana achieved the seventeenth spot in the South African Airways WTA list on Monday as a result of her title win in Bali at the 2010 Commonwealth Bank tournament of Champions.
The 1.86 meter tall Ana, won her quarter final round in Bali after getting the better of her third seed foe, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in a two setter clash. The final match score was 6-0, 6-1.
Next she met the oldest tennis contender on the WTA tour, Kimiko Date Krumm of Veteran in the semi final round. The Serbian did well to continue her form and thus played some great tennis to win the final four round in three sets
on her 23rd birthday in Bali. The final score line was 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-2.
The right hander by virtue of this win also made her way into the title battle at the tournament of Champions where she faced Alisa Kleybanova of Russia.
Ivanovic comfortably triumphed over her Russian foe in straight sets on Sunday. The final match score was 6-2 7-6(5). It marked her tenth overall crown and second of the season.
The former world number one after her title victory reflected, “It is great to win another trophy. It is a big step for me. The second set today came down to mental strength and just believing in myself. The last few months have
been really exciting. It is a great way to go into next year."
With her crown in Bali, Ivanovic also reached a season end ranking of number seventeen on the WTA tour on Monday. It is her fifth ever finish in the top twenty.
