Tennis latest: Justine Henin bounces back from injury
Former world number one Justine Henin will be making her comeback to Tennis next month.
The Belgian Tennis star had been planning to make her comeback much earlier and had been looking forward to participate in the Beijing Open in October 2010. However, when tournament time came along she still had a long way to go down the recovery road.
Henin hurt her elbow, in what was perhaps the most epic match in the history of Wimbledon. She was playing against fellow Belgian Kim Clijsters, when she tumbled on the court and ended up with an injured tendon in her elbow.
Henin, back in what we hope to be top playing condition, is all set to make her second comeback at the Hopman Cup in Perth, Australia. The event is scheduled to start from 1 January 2011. The 28-year-old player will be participating in at least three singles
and three mixed-doubles matches.
The event is a very good place to start as it is being held just ahead of the Australian Open. It will provide Henin with the perfect opportunity to test her newly healed elbow and will serve as a warm up for the first Grand Slam of 2011.
She has very huge expectations attached to her, especially when it comes to the Australian Open. This is mainly because she made her first comeback at the 2010 Australian Open and that too with a bang. She got as far as the finals and even though she held
her own against Serena Williams; after a valiant effort she eventually lost the match.
Her injury left her disappointed, especially since she had worked so hard to make her comeback. She had earlier retired from the game in 2008 and it took her a year and a half to sort out all her personal issues and make a return.
Before her injury, she had been storming through the season. She was in good form before everything turned south.
However, to come from where it seemed unlikely she would ever be able to return to the game in less than 12 months is a great triumph in itself for the player.
