Tennis latest; Sania Mirza urges the Indian fans to wait for young talent to come forth
The 24-year-old Sania Mirza pleaded the crazy cricket fans in India on Wednesday to wait for the upcoming tennis stars to burst on the tennis scene.
"We all know that the sports culture of the country is cricket and we might have to wait with some patience for more promising players to emerge," told the Indian tennis sensation.
The right hander Mirza, who made her debut on the WTA tour back in 2003, is the only Indian woman to have gained international recognition. She believes that the reason for such a dearth can be blamed on anything ranging from misfortune,
lack of attention to lack of talent.
"It is very difficult to find a reason for it,” reflected the Hyderabad resident who achieved her career high ranking of world number twenty seven back in 2007.
Mirza ended her 2010 season on the WTA tour by winning an International Tennis Federation competition held in Dubai this Sunday. The professional tennis player from India who is currently ranked number 186 in the South African
Airways WTA list, while commenting on her fitness said that she is recovering and getting back to her top form at the moment. Sania has been facing problems due to her wrist injury for the last two years on tour.
The right hander has been performing quite consistently on the tour for the last three months.
When questioned who she would like to pick up as her doubles partner between Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi, the wife of former Pakistan Cricket team skipper, Shoaib Malik, said that she feels honoured to play with both of them
and is looking forward to continue her partnership with both the Indian stars in the future.
While throwing light on her next year’s plan, the winner of silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2010, added that she is hoping to give her 100% and triumph in as many events as she can in the next season.
Shoaib Malik’s wife, in the end, refused to pass any comment on the tennis aptitude in Pakistan and said that she has visited her neighboring country only once or twice and therefore cannot say anything about it.
