  1. Sounds like a lot of fun. I can't wait to get back to playing tennis with my wife. We just had a baby and she is still recovering. For what it's worth here are my tips.

    1. As simple as it sounds, make sure you just go out there and have fun. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. You're not a pro and never will be. If you s***w up, laugh at yourself and try again.  Nobody likes it when people take things too seriously. This is coming from a very competitive person.

    2. Serving tip(this really helped me). I am assuming you are right handed. Try and throw the ball fairly high and in front of you, so you are trying to meet the ball at the apex (top) of the swing. Also keep your eye up a split second longer after you hit the ball. It will really help you get it over the net.  To find out how the very top of your swing feels, go to a fence and extend your racket upwards(like a serve) and you will get a feel for what it will be like.

    3. For a forehand just remember to keep your eye on the ball and follow through to a full finish. Rotate around your body. To feel what a good forehand feels like, go to the net and swing like you are hitting a forehand and lay the racket flat on the net.

    4. For a backhand, start the racket out low when you are loading up for the hit.

    5. if you are playing outdoors the weather (wind, sun etc) will be a factor so don't try to overswing. Stay smooth and work on keeping it in play.

    6. Tell your husband/boyfriend not to be too hard on you and give each other a kiss afterward. Go out for a drink with the other couples together.

anyway that's all for now. Have a lot of fun and make sure you stretch out after warming up. Don't pull any muscles.

  2. Everyones being too complicated, only one major thing is really important, Play High-Percentage Tennis, be consistent!

If you can hit the ball one more time than your opponent you can win easily.

  3. one good tip i could give you is to never let the opposing team see you and your partner being frustrated or fighting- they will feed off of that. Also, when the team has the momentum that means they have points and points racking up you want to break it by like saying sorry i wasnt ready for your serve- you do this by looking at the ground and if she serves dont touch it.

    Good Luck!!!

    What tournament is this??

    I also play tennis!

  4. I always try to sit down for about 5 or 10 minutes before the match and just focus and try to envision myself winning the match.  It helps get confidence up and it also gets me calm before I step on the court.  Depending on your level, if you are playing doubles I always advise people to play the 2 up formation, instead of the standard 1 up 1 back.  If you are at a beginner to intermediate level your opponent won't expect you and your partner to both play the net.  Make sure you have good communication with your partner and keep switching things up so you don't become predictable.

  5. omg, i play tennis too. okayy. you need to know the weather. is it windy? cloudy? hot? humid? becaus your play will change according to weather. like i have i wide range when i hit. my balls always land in no mans land. so the day it is windy and i am playing with the wind i try to put wayyy more spin then i usually do. when you are actually playing though i think you should warm up with your opponent for extra time. make him/her serve a couple of times on both sides so you get to know him/her serve well. also hit him/her different forehands and backhands to see which one is better. once you find which stroke she does better do not feed her that stroke. also see if she is better at volleys or groundstrokes. like when she comes up to the net does she play hard or soft? these are many of the things that i do. also, while playing the match i make sure my opponent runs a lot so that he/she gets real tired. here are some professional tips i found:

The most important shots which define how the point will be played are the serve and the return. If you have a weak serve and return, then you'll be on defense the whole point.

A good serving tip is to first find your serve. Don't blast your first serves in the match at your full power. Start at 75%, then increase the speed and see where is the best feeling and percentage of shots.

Start with medium paced returns down the middle and then add speed and placement when the match progresses. The main goal of the return on the first serve is to get it back deep down the middle and on the second serve to make your opponent run - so preferably a cross court return.

The game is obviously based on forehands and backhands - hence "groundstrokes". You need to find them also when you start the match. Start with long cross courts 2-5 feet over the net and aim 5 feet from both side and baseline.

When you find good length, start utilizing short cross court and down the lines shots to make your opponent run.

  6. well in that case I would say keep your eyes firm and erect. arms erect. forearm erect. raquet erect. and thrust your arm downwards as if slicing peppers.

  7. Get the book "Winning Ugly" by Brad Gilbert.  You don't have to read it cover to cover.  Just skip to the sections that interest you.  Read and re-read sections in your spare time (in the car, waiting in line, etc.).  I play a lot too, its really been helping me.  Good luck, relax, do your best, and have fun!
