Tennis news: Carolina Wozniacki and Vera Zvonareva sail to the third round at U.S. Open 2010, Flushing Meadows
The tennis veteran from Denmark Caroline Wozniacki is in superb form and now through to the third round of the ongoing event of tennis US Open tournament, after beating her rival Kai Chen Chang. The victory of Wozniacki is a very strong proof of her improved winning form and she has conveyed a very strong message to the other participants that she is a very strong contender for this final Grand Slam title of the season.
In the match, the current world number 1 Wozniacki outclassed her opponent in all forms of the game and made the second round match look like a piece of cake. It took the Danish ace only 47 minutes to hammer her unseeded rival by 6-0 6-0 in a two-setter match. Now she is eyeing eagerly the further stages of the tournament. It is also to be remembered that she had lost her match against Kim Clijsters in the Finals of the US Open Grand Slam last year but this time she is feeling much confident to thrash every opponent that comes her way. Wozniacki outplayed Kai Chen Chang with her powerful serves and brilliant movement. The 20-year-old tennis ace showed her skills and impressive character by winning the first set in just 20 minutes and kept her thundering assault in progress for the second set as well. It was truly a very unlucky day for Chen Chang, as she was unable to find even a single point in the match. The world number 2 will now face Yung Jan Chan from China in the third round of the tournament. It is also to be remembered that Yung Jan Chan has thrashed the Austrian tennis player Tamira Paszek by 6-3 6-3 pretty convincingly to get a slot in the third round of the event.
In the other interesting matches of the tournament the emerging tennis player from United States, Beatrice Capra hammered her 18th seeded rival Aravane Rezai in a three-setter match. This victory is a great for the world number 371, as it is fourth professional tennis event of her playing career. In the match the 18-year-old showed her remarkable talent by beating her rival with 7-5 2-6 6-3.
In another match at the Flushing Meadows Vera Zvonareva made her way through to the third round of the tournament by beating unseeded Sabine Lisicki after a very challenging battle. The first set of the match between Vera Zvonareva and Sabine Lisicki was won by Zvonareva very easily by 6-1. After the first set Lisicki fought hard and came back in the match pretty strongly, and gave some very tough time to the veteran Russian rival. But in the end it was Vera, who used her skill and experience to settle the brawl in a winning passion. The Russian clutched the match from her opponent by 6-1 7-6. The importance of Vera Zvonareva in the tournament cannot be ignored, since she has the right experience and talent to beat any opponent. Zvonareva has the record of getting into the third round of US Grand Slam for six times out of seven matches she appeared in the tournament. Her previous record is a strong proof of her capacity.
Her opponent Sabine Lisicki on the other hand, seemed uncomfortable and out of form during the match. She has been fighting to recover from her ankle injury and has already missed five months of tennis season, and that is probably the major reason that dragged her out of the good playing form. The match seemed a little tougher than her expectations, as she was suffering and failed to win a single tie-break point.
