“It is kind of unbelievable for me at the moment. However, it feels great and now that I have jumped into the top fifty, I can set my targets and start moving in that direction to rise higher,” said Elena.
After a frustrating injury break two years ago, the 27-year-old Elena has greatly improved her form under the supervision of her tennis coach, Nino Severino.
Elena, who was kicked out of the United States Open tennis tournament after a second round loss at the hands of Petra Kvitova, is seeded for the up next Commonwealth Games which are going to be held in Delhi. The Ipswich resident disclosed that her next goal is to reach the top forty.
“During the start of my career, my only target was to remain in the top hundred and I was not even thinking of reaching the top fifty rankings, however, here I am with the new world rankings and that gives me a lot of confidence to play even better. Off course, my next goal is to reach the top forty as soon as possible. I spent a total of ten years in my struggle to reach the top hundred and didn’t even get anywhere near that, so to do this at just twenty seven years of age is something really valuable and precious for me. Hopefully, I will continue to play better and improve my rankings further, as there is a lot to achieve,” said Elena while commenting on her latest accomplishment.
The right-handed Scott has been facing a couple of health and injury issues over the last few years. However, the world number forty nine has managed to handle them successfully, which makes it all the more amazing for Elena.
Elena Baltacha also stressed the significance of having a good team behind her who always supported her and motivated her to play well on the courts.
"I have been through the possibilities of announcing my retirement on a couple of occasions, but my team didn’t let me do that. And I feel no hesitation to take the name of my coach, Nino Severino along with my entire team who always stood by me when it was needed the most,” added Baltacha.
