Tennis news: Kim Clijsters and Elena Dementieva successful in making their way to the top 8 of the US Women's Open
Kim Clijsters has made her way strongly into the top eight stages of the ongoing US Open Grand Slam. The Belgian brushed away her opponent mercilessly and conveyed a very strong message to the other rivals that she is ready to defend her title.
The match was dramatic and full of suspense, as the people were confused and news were surrounding the air with the assumptions about the Hurricane Earl, which was reported as it might disrupt the day’s play. But the current world number three kept her head and tried to finish the match as soon as possible. The Belgian showed her capacity with class, as she outclassed her opponent from Czech Republic Petra Kvitova in all departments of the game. It was the twelfth win by the former world number 1 in a row, which is no doubt a very special one to her as she is busy in getting closer and closer to snatch one more Grand Slam title for her. The match was a pretty easy match for the veteran Belgian, as she faced no difficulty in thrashing Petra Kvitova. It is to be remembered that the 27th seeded Petra is not an easy opponent at all, as she was able to reach into the semi-finals of the prestigious Wimbledon tournament this year. Her previous performances are a very vivid proof of her outstanding talent and skills. But this time she was lacking the right amount of luck and seemed no match for the former world number 1 tennis ace from Belgium. The two-setter match’s victory was easily snatched by Clijsters by 6-3 6-0.
After winning the match, Kim Clijsters told the media that she was feeling very tensed about the match as everybody was busy in talking about the storm but she is happy that she has been able to finish the match before the occurrence of storm. She added that winning a match is always good, as it gives a lot of confidence and determination for the next contest. The world number three added that she is feeling much relaxed and confident about the upcoming challenges of the Grand Slam.
Talking about other players in the tournament it is to be remembered that the tennis ace from Russia Elena Dementieva has also qualified for the third round of the ongoing US Open. In her recent match the Russian faced a very tough challenge from her opponent; the twenty fourth seeded Daniela Hantuchova. It was a very special victory for the Russian ace as she found herself struggling against Hantuchova. Dementieva has won her last 11 matches out of 13 she had played and she is eager to clutch each and every possibility of snatching a victory. In the beginning of the match Hantuchova gained the lead by 5 points to 2 and gave the Russian a very tough time but Dementieva used her technique and touched her spirit. Dementieva came back in the match very strongly and settled the brawl by winning the match with 7-5 6-2. After the match the Russian ace tennis starlet expressed her views by saying that the first set of the match was pretty crucial for her, as she was focusing more over her movements and was not able to take control. She added that the thing which matters to her is victory right now and she will try her level best to keep her winning streak alive. Dementieva will now face the French Open finalist Samantha Stosur. Samantha Stosur has successfully made her way to the third round of the event by beating Italian opponent Sara Errani pretty convincingly by 6-2 6-3.
In the other matches of the US Open tournament the 19-year-old Russian and 20th seeded for the tournament Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova snatched a convincing victory over the Argentinean Gisela Dulko by 6-1 6-2.
