Tennis news: Novak Djokovic says, “Rafael is the all-time greatest”
The Serbian tennis player, Novak Djokovic has supported the world number one, Rafael Nadal to be the greatest-ever tennis contender after failing to prevent the 24-year-old Spaniard from completing his career Grand Slam at the Flushing Meadows in New York.
Rafa won the United States Open title with a 6-4 5-7 6-4 6-2 victory over the Serbian to add to his trophies captured previously at the French Open, Australian Open as well as Wimbledon. Nadal, as a result has registered his name as the seventh player to
accomplish the feat, and the third-ever youngster to do so.
"He has all the ingredients to become the greatest-ever player in the game of tennis. I think he is performing at his very best at the moment. I have never seen him playing so well previously on the hard courts. Moreover, the Spaniard has also worked dramatically
on his serve. The accuracy, pace and obviously his baseline is as good as ever, so overall he is a complete package on the tour at the moment,” said Novak.
Having taken down Roger Federer, the winner of sixteen Grand Slam crowns, in the semis and then facing Rafael in the title battle, Novak is well-placed to contrast the two.
According to the Serbian, there is almost five to six years of age difference between the two and off course, Roger has had more years on the tour, he has had more victories and has more crowns as well.
"He is off course one of those players who made the history in tennis. And the man is still playing as one of the strongest contenders on the tour. On the other hand, we have Rafa who is also showing his world-class talent with every single tournament. Every
time I face him, he plays even better than his previous clashes. He is extremely strong in terms of mental toughness and highly dedicated to tennis. He has undoubtedly all the skills required to be the greatest-ever, in my view. He has still a lot of years
to come and dominate, provided that he remains physically fit,” added the Serbian.
