Tennis news from Korea Open and Open de Moselle tennis tournament
The professional tennis player, Nadia Petrova won her yesterday’s second round match of the Korea Open tennis tournament after brushing aside Vania King in a total of two sets in Seoul. The final match score was 6-3, 6-4.
Petrova as a result of this victory has registered her name as the only one of the top four seeds to prevail in the round two. The top seeded Nadia won the opening set comprehensively and then rallied for 0-3 in the next to prevail.
The Russian, as a result of this victory was able to avenge her doubles final loss at the United States Open tennis tournament, where Nadia and number one doubles contender Liezel Huber were hammered down by Yaroslava Shvedova and Vania King in straight
sets.
Meanwhile, Kimiko Date Krumm who is also the last year’s winner defeated her 19-year-old tennis foe, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-2, 6-1. Krumm played well right from the start of the match and didn’t let her
opponent bounce back at any stage of the game.
"She is one of the top tennis players on the tour, so I was already aware of the fact that I had to play well. I just didn’t want to think that I was a last year’s winner here; otherwise I would have lost the match. Therefore, I used different strategy,
and I am glad that it did the trick for me,” said Date Krumm after the match on Thursday.
The third seeded and former Seoul winner Maria Kirilenko, on the other hand, was dismissed by the former top-ranked tennis player Dinara Safina, a wild card entrant in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-2, 6-3. The fourth seeded Maria Jose
Martinez Sanchez was also knocked down at the hands of Ekaterina Makarova in a close match. The final match score was 6-4, 7-5.
"The previous time we met, it was easier than our today’s match. She played some good tennis without any question. However, I am glad that I managed to win it in the end,” said Dinara after the match.
Meanwhile, the fifth seeded Alisa Kleybanova dispatched off Ksenia Pervak in a total of three sets on Thursday. The final match score was 6-7(13), 6-1, 6-2. Agnes Szavay the fifth seeded player, toppled Elena Baltacha who was seeded eight to win the title.
The final match score was 6-3, 7-5. Yaroslava Shvedova, however, was not that fortunate as she was overpowered by Kirsten Flipkens in a two-setter clash. The final match score was 6-4, 6-1.
Klara Zakopalova triumphed in an all unseeded clash against Vera Dushevina in straight sets.
The 15-13 tie-break of the Ksenia- Alisa was the lengthiest of the season. No tie-break had previously gone beyond 12-10 this season. Alisa had a total of three set points in the tie-break, however, at last lost the opening set after eight three minutes
in Seoul.
In the doubles match, Ayumi Morita and Date Krumm got the better of Shvedova and King in a total of three sets on Thursday.
In some other action in Metz , Xavier Malisse from Belgium managed to upset the former champ and third seeded tennis ace, Ivan Ljubicic to make his way into the quarter final round of the Open de Moselle tennis tournament. The final match score was 7-5,
6-2.
Top seeded, Marin Cilic also progressed with a two setter victory over Lukas Lacko from Slovakia. The final match score was 7-5, 7-6 (3).
Xavier broke his foe on three occasions to register his second victory in four clashes versus Ivan, who had twelve aces.
Malisse, as a result of this victory will next take on Gilles Simon from France who is seeded number eight to win the title in Metz. Simon reached the quarter final round after surpassing Igor Sijsling in a three setter clash. The final match score was 6-1,
6-7 (5), 6-3.
Jarkko Nieminen from Finland also advanced after defeating Kristof Vliegen in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-4, 6-1.
