i used to do tennis for 3 years when i was younger, and i quit to take up piano (mom made me).

ive been doing classical piano for 8 years now, and i want to take up tennis again..

i've been hearing mixed replies from different ppl about doing both of htem at once

some say that you cant do both because it can ruin the piano/tennis

others say its fine.

so yeah. :)

  1. Tennis & piano can act as cross-training for one another.

With both, control of the wrist is important.

With both, you need strength in your hands (grip), as well as your shoulders/center.

Both require good timing, rhythm and the ability to change that.

Both require the coordinated use of the hands and feet.

Tennis gives you a fit body through aerobic activity -- that is always good for a pianist.

One rarely breaks a finger with tennis.  The most common injuries for tennis would not keep you from piano; the most common problems for pianists wouldn't keep you off the court.

  2. i have piano lessons and play tennis comps and i don't find that they effect each other and you should start playing tennis again. it's the best sport in the world

  3. i don't think they would effect each other much at all. I played piano for 8 years, and I have played tennis for four. if anything, for me, my tennis has gotten better, since i was a kid, not worse. i think you should definitely take tennis up again. if anything, if your bad, that just means you are out of practice. hope this helps!

  4. They have nothing to do with each other, unless of course you injure your hand playing tennis, in which case it would affect your ability to play piano.

  5. usually, having two hobbies doesn't unleash the full potential for each one. that means you cant give your best in both and work hard in them. technically, though, piano doesn't affect tennis at all. your technique will be the same for both. although you wont reach equally high levels
