Question:

Tennis prize money?

Anyone else hate it when they hand over the check during the trophy presentation? Even if my favorite player has just won, it does take a little off the moment when he is handed a check for 1.2 million dollars and the key to a brand new Mercedes infront of the crowd and TV audience. We all know that tennis players, like all sports stars make good money but does the precise amount need to be so openly advertised? It really hammers home the difference between the stars playing the game and the peasants watching them. Agree or disagree?

  1. I don't really take it to mind.  Hey, they are insanely awesome people and we are just normal.

  2. agree

  3. There's no doubt that the top pros win plenty of prize money when they win a tournament. That's one of the reasons why they play. But it's more for the advertisers and sponsors to hand over the money and get some recognition there. It happens in golf as well, and a lot more money at that.

I agree that perhaps the money should be awarded without all the fanfare. It's enough that they are presented a trophy at the conclusion of a tournament. They can pick up their prize money in the locker room.

  4. disagree...

that's part of what they play for.  yeah everyone loves the game, but if there were two men's open tournaments the same weekend and one offered prize money while the other didn't, no one would want to play the one that didn't offer any prize money.  after playing your *** off for 5-7 rounds of tennis, the feeling of being honored and receiving your prize is glorious.  it's not about the money, but the money is part of the celebration.

  5. agree, but if it was disclosed people would still want to know
