Tennis racket tension?

Mine has been strung at 50lbs, but it's been half a year and I've been playing a lot. Now, it seems like I can't get enough power out of it. What should I do?

  1. wow! 50 lbs?! i haven't seen that number for a long time! you should be getting plenty of pops. if you feel no power at this tension, most likely the string is dead. when was the last time you get a string job?

i donno what kind of racket head size of your racket, but 50 lbs is a bid loose to me.  but if you are used to it, than it is okay.

if you want more power, you can strung it with thinner strings, like 17 guage.

price range for a string job without purchasing (bring your own string) a set, in my area is between $10 - $18, depends on the store, usually pro shop charge a little more. i take mine to Chicks sports.

when you purchase the strings from the store (ranges from $35 and up, for a decent set), the string job is usually free.

  2. Time to restring!  50lbs is quite low. I would try stringing it at 54 lbs, and expect it to lose some of that tension.  You might even like the extra control with a tighter string bed.

  3. The tension in the string of the racquet will decrease over time and amount of playing.  If your strings don't break, they will eventually drop to an undesired level and the racquet should be restrung.

It is generally recommended that you restring the racquet in a year the amount of times you play in a week. Examples: Once a week you would restring every 6 months, Twice every 4 months, etc until everyday being every month and a half.
