If the return is sliced and bounces over the net and then back to the returner without the server touching the ball, who gets the point?

  1. Do you always serve that short or were you tricking the other dude with a 'drop shot serve' heh.  The point goes to the returner. The chances of that happening are so rare!

  2. My coach told me if that happens you can reach over the net (This is the only time you can reach over the net) and hit it.  But this is for High School Tennis.  Rules could be different if your in College or somewhere.

  3. The returner wins the point, unless of course the server is somehow able to hit the ball before bouncing again on the returner's side, in which case the point is still alive.  But the server must not touch the net with his racquet or any part of his body.

  4. If the return ball bounced off inside the opponent's court, the returner scores the point.

  5. the returner gets the point as the ball went over the net and landed into the court no matter what happens to the ball afterwards, the point goes to the returner if the server did not get the ball.

  6. If I understand correctly, then you are saying the return landed in the server's side of the court but bounced back over the net onto the returner's side, then the point goes to the returner.

I hope that's what you meant.

  7. This can actually happen at any point in a match, not just on the return of serve.  But if you hit a ball with enough spin and it bounces back to your side without your opponent touching the ball, you get the point.

I looked in my Friend At Court, but couldn't find the exact rule, so I cannot comment on whether your opponent can touch the ball on your side of the net to keep the point in play.  But I am sure that you would win the point if you hit a shot that spun and bounced back to your side.

  8. If the server never touches it, the returner who hit the slice shot wins the point.  However, when this happens, it is the one time a person is allowed to reach over the net to hit the shot.  Just don't touch the net at all.  Actually the best thing to do in this case (assuming you're the server), is to reach over and hit the ball back into the returner's side of the net. This way there is no chance that your opponent can hit it back.

  9. Returner

  10. The server does because the ball bounced twice on your side of the court (Presuming you didn't get it back).
