Tennis star, Sania Mirza, will be back as soon as she recovers from her surgery
The 24-year-old Indian Tennis pro, Sania Mirza, underwent an arthroscopic surgery on her left-knee at Apollo Hospital Hyderabad, India, on Saturday, the 8th of October. The star's professional career is dependent on the success of this surgery.
“We are praying this time the knee treatment is successful and she does not have to go through all the pain again. If all goes well, she should be able to resume practice in four weeks’ time”, said Imran Mirza, father of Sania Mirza after the successful
knee operation of the Indian tennis star.
Imran Mirza informed the media, “Sania had torn her meniscus during the US Open Grand Slam tournament in Flushing Meadows in September and thus the surgery took place. After suffering an injury last month, Sania had been undergoing a course of injections
to avoid a surgery but she failed to respond to the treatment”.
Sania Mirza has had two surgeries prior to this one. In 2006, Sania underwent an arthroscopy after damaging her ACL on the right knee and in 2007, she had a right wrist surgery to repair a torn lunate capsule.
With a career high ranking of 27 in singles and 10 in doubles, Sania is the highest ranked female tennis player of India.
After Shika Uberoi, who played in the 2004 US Open, Sania is the second Indian woman to be featuring at a Grand Slam tournament.
The first ever Indian to appear in the top 30 WTA rankings, Sania has numerous titles and victories to her acclaim.
Teaming up with Alisa Kleybanova of Russia, Sania won 2003 Wimbledon Championships Girls' Doubles title in April 2003. In September 2006, the youngster outperformed three top players, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Nadia Petrova and Martina Hingis.
Sania Mirza and Elena Vesnina were one of the most victorious doubles team in 2011, winning two Premier Level titles, reaching the French Open Finals and qualifying for numerous quarterfinals and semifinals.
The brilliant player and her family are hopeful that she will start playing again very soon. Sania will also strive to improve her international ranking once she gets back in the game.
