Tennis star Serena Williams featured in Vogue Magazine for a manicure
The Williams sisters are always up to something new and creative. When they are playing tennis, their mind is focused on nothing but their game, however when they are not on-court these tennis divas have a whole set of activities other than tennis up their sleeves.
No doubt that both the sisters are extremely talented in whatever they set their mind to. Serena and Venus both have a passion for fashion and have made a prominent mark in the fashion industry. Venus has a degree in fashion designing from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale and designs her own clothing line which is available for the public. Serena is not far behind in the game as she is also very active in the fashion scene and has been a part of numerous modelling campaigns.
Serena Williams is an exceptional professional tennis player which is explained by the fact that she is currently ranked as world number one for the fifth time during her career. She has won a total of thirteen Grand Slam singles titles and is well on her way to winning more if she keeps up her amazing form. She was the champion at Wimbledon this year and due to an unfortunate foot injury it has been reported that this tennis star may not be able to play at the US Open: which is the next major tennis tournament coming up this year. This has made her fans miserable all over the world, but according to Serena’s agent this news is still yet to be confirmed.
Recently this tennis diva has been made a part of an upcoming feature, ‘She’s Got Game’, in the August 2010 edition of the fashion magazine Vogue. Serena Williams has been featured in Vogue a number of times before for various photo shoots and how she stays fit to keep up her game. This time she is being featured for something unique and this article will express the vast interests possessed by one of the greatest female tennis players of all time.
For this feature, the Vogue employee Marina Rust has spent some time interviewing Serena at a high-class hotel in Palm Beach overlooking the seaside and surprisingly getting a manicure from the tennis star. It turns out Serena Williams is on her way to becoming a certified nail technician. For this she has had to undergo a course of 240 hours in which she had to complete 25 manicures, 40 acrylics and 20 pedicures.
Serena has not turned up for the interview holding up a tennis racquet, instead she has come with her assistant and a Hello Kitty nail caddy, which consists of all the tools needed for her nail maintenance. This world number one female tennis player talks about her interest and says that she has been passionate about nail art since she was a teenager. When she was fifteen she practically converted her room into a nail salon and had a shelf full of at least fifty nail polishes. Her inspiration for this unique art has been the American track and field athlete, Florence Griffith Joyner, whom she watched win the gold medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. The tennis champion says that she admired Florence’s nails because they were always perfectly done and thought that even if she could never become an athlete as good as Florence, she could surely have great nails like her.
Williams has definitely made her way to becoming an amazing athlete and now she even manages to keep her nails in amazing shape as she is almost a professional nail technician now. Even on-court, while playing a vigorous game of tennis, her nails can be seen to be decorated fully with bight coloured nail polish and tiny nail tattoos.
This tennis star is always full of surprises and thanks to her ladies certainly have something interesting to look forward to in their next edition of Vogue!
