Tennis star Shahar Pe'er – her performance in 2010
Born on May 1, 1987 in the city of Jerusalem, Shahar Pe'er is a professional tennis player from Israel. The 23-year-old Shahar achieved her career high rankings of worlds number fourteen back in June this season. Pe'er has so far captured a total of five WTA Singles trophies as well as three WTA Doubles crown in her career. The Israeli tennis ace is currently ranked number sixteen in the world by WTA.
As far as her performances this year are concerned, Shahar Pe'er started off her season by playing at the 2010 ASB Classic tennis tournament, where she reached the semi-final round of the competition. The right-handed player made her way into the semi-final round after getting the better of Polona Hercog, Magdalena Rybarikova, Maria Kirilenko as well as Yanina Wickmayer.
Shahar next competed at the 2010 Moorilla Hobart International as her second appearance for the season. She did well to reach the final round after defeating Olivia Rogowska, Jelena Dokic, Carla Suarez Navarro as well as Sara Errani in the early stages of the championship. Nonetheless Pe'er lost her third round clash to the fourth-seeded Caroline Wozniacki in a total of two sets. However, after the championship, Pe'er's ranking improved to number twenty two in the world.
Shahar was seeded number seventeen at the 2010 BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament. She received a first round bye and faced Bethanie Mattek-Sands in her opening round match of the tournament. The Israeli comfortably got the better of Bethanie in a two-setter clash to reach the third round of the competition. In the third round, Pe'er hammered down the ninth seeded tennis opponent Flavia Pennetta in a three-setter clash. The final match score was 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-2. However, the right-handed player lost in the fourth round of the competition to Jelena Jankovic in a total of two sets.
At the clay court French Open tennis tournament, the top-ranked Israeli tennis player from the women’s side was seeded number eighteen to win the title. She thrashed out Nuria Llagostera Vives as well as Bethanie Mattek-Sands in the first two rounds of the competition respectively. In the third round, Pe'er defeated the top-ranked French tennis ace, Marion Bartoli at Roland Garros in a total of two sets. The seventh-ranked Pe'er who faced Serena Williams in the fourth round of the competition was eliminated in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-2, 6-2. Despite losing, Shahar achieved her new career high ranking of number fourteen in the world back in June this season, which is also the highest ranking-ever achieved by a female tennis player from Israel.
Shahar was seeded number thirteen at the grass court Grand Slam tournament this season at All England Club. The Israeli tennis sensation couldn’t pass the second round of the competition as she was upset by a German tennis ace Angelique Kerber in a total of three sets. The final match score was 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Pe'er next competed at the 2010 Bank of the West Classic tennis tournament held in Stanford, where she was once again upset by Maria Kirilenko in the second round of the competition.
In Cincinnati, the Israeli professional tennis player, Shahar Pe'er was knocked down in the third round of the competition by Nuria Llagostera Vives in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-3 6-2.
