  1. Synthetic strings try to copy natural gut properties. I think Natural Gut feels so good because it is made with natural, elastic fibers (like a part of your own body).  It is expensive, but for good reason.  It takes 3 cows to make one set of Natural Gut!  A set usually costs between 30 and 40 dollars, but by using it in a hybrid setup, you significantly cut your costs.  People justify NOT using it because it may not be durable enough, but with the coating technology nowadays, Natural Gut lasts a lot longer than it used to.  Some people avoid trying it because they are afraid they will like it TOO much, and can't afford to keep it up.  Stringers do generally charge more to string your racquet with Natural Gut.  That is why I always recommend buying your own stringer and stringing your own racquets, especially if you plan on playing for a long time, and break strings often.

  2. Well, it all depends on what you want out of your strings. If you want more spin, then you need a thinner gauge string. You can use natural gut, which some people say provides more feel, or synthetic strings which is like a cheaper version. If you want more springiness from your strings, you could use durabel kevlar strings for mains, and synthetic or poly for the crosses.

  3. It would be better to use your poly as your main and synthetic as your crosses. I use luxilon big banger as my main strings and i use a synthetic for my crosses. It's an amazing combination and pretty popular. If you can afford it then you could try using natural gut strings with a poly hybrid. Natural gut strings are very comfortable but pretty expensive.

  4. It's better to use the poly on the mains and the synthetic on the crosses, b/c the string will last longer.  I personally like mixing two polys... I use Luxilon Big Banger mains and Wilson Enduro Pro crosses.  It usually lasts me a week, where as if i use synthetic i break that in a half hour to an hour.

I like the spring and the feel with the luxilon, and I mix it with Enduro Pro b/c luxilon is pretty expensive.  This combination will provide you with precision accuracy and durability.

  5. I went from Prince Synthetic Gut Original, to Polly and Synthetic and wasn't playing good at all, I couldn't get a good feel for the ball. So I switched back to using Prince Synthetic Gut Orig. and started playing better again, and could really get a feel of the ball. For some reason using Polly, I would hit alot more balls out, and I couldn't control the ball.

I would reccomend Sensation, that's good, you can get a great feel for the ball with that one, and even Prince Synthetic Gut orig. that one is my favorite! Good luck!
