Question:

Tennis string problem!!?

I recently bought a Head Flexpoint 10 and restrung the racket a few days later with Wilson NXT strings. I strung the racket at 56lbs. and on the first day i played with it, absolutely beautiful control and power. But on my second day of playing, my damned strings started to move like no other and i could feel a loss of power. And when i would hit the ball, it would sound odd and my shot would not go as hit.?? What string should i use because the strings move and i "feel as if it is ruining my game". Is it just me or is something wrong with my racket string and tension? Please, if there is a problem with my string, recommend me some good combination and tensions of strings. I play mostly towards the back of the court and play lots of back hand spin and power forehand mostly away from baseline. THANKS!

  1. I would recommend a hybrid of Natural Gut (mains) and a polyester string on the crosses (Signum Poly Plasma or Luxilon Big Banger).  Also, you need to increase the tension to 58-60 (on the mains), to reduce the string movement.  I string my own racquets and found this combo to work for me.  You might want to try it and then adjust it a bit to suit your game.  String the poly in the crosses at 52-54 since they don't really lose much tension.  Regular strings like NXT can lose up to 10 percent of their tension after a few hitting sessions.  Natural Gut is the "Rolls Royce" of tennis strings, for good reason.  They are soft and powerful.  And the coating technology makes them a lot more durable than they used to be.  Like a lot of things in life, you get what you pay for.  It turns out to be a even better value, when string it with another, cheaper string in the crosses.  The crosses are said to contribute to only 20% of the overall stringbed attributes.  If you don't want your strings to move at ALL, you can string your whole racquet with the poly strings, but they are get very stiff after a month or so, and lose their "feel".  Good luck!

  2. oh dang.

    that sounds bad.

    well,

    it depends,

if you have massive groundstrokes, or serves

you might of loosened the strings.

or the guy/girl who restrung it might of done the strings wrong.

    who knows.

here are a list of good strings:

    polyplasma is a good string

    (orange or silverish grey color)

tnt (is fluro yellow) it's got EXPLOSIVE power. (but the tension has to be loose)

    or big banger.

    :D

    hope that helps.

  3. A common misconception is that looser means less power, the looser you string your raquet the more powerful it is. Sounds odd but its true

The problem is probably related to the fact that since Wilson NXT strings are synthetic rather than gut, they slide more after the first use, and since you use spin, the misalignment of the strings affected your shots. Try using gut strings or a pro-blend of synthetic and gut

  4. well....on the racquets there is usually a little label that tells you what the best tensions are for the string....if you looked at that and it is a tension in the range then i don't know what to tell you....maybe you should try Head strings.
