I'll start playing tennis in high school next year. What types of training methods should I start in the summer, and should I start running and other stuff?

  1. yes you need running, lots of stretching and weigh training. you need speed and strength in a very delicate mix for tennis.

  2. .

Focus on the mental side of tennis.

Visualize yourself with your shots, understand how you perform under pressure, and what you can do to change that.  Learn to feel your opponent, which way he/she is moving, and essentially know ahead of time what they will do next.  Learn to control your emotions.

This is the most difficuly portion of the sport, but if you learn and build on it, month after month, year after year, your skill level and understanding of the game will increase.

    .

  3. you should start jogging to build up your endurance and do dynamic stretches. jump roping even playing other sports such as soccer will help you to be faster on the court.

just try to be consistent because i'm not that much of a strong player but i work well with my doubles partner and that's why my coach put me on varsity.

your high school will probably have the tyrouts and if you make the team, they will have you do training during practice.

  4. yeah running and footwork drills are good. footwork is a really important part of tennis. also i would try to hit as much as you can, the more you hit the better you get. and muscle building (strength building) is good. lifting a little bit, cardio, etc.

    good luck! :)

  5. You run, jump rope, bike  stretch, lift weights for upper body strength and anything to increase speed, endurance and agility!
