Tennis tryouts, really nervous? ?

This coming year I will be a freshman in high school. I have decided to try out for my schools tennis team. The thing is, I am like extremely nervous. There are 15+ freshman trying out besides me. I know only a few of the ones trying out though, and I am either as equally skilled or better than them. The tryout is just playing against all the other people trying to get on the team. I am not going to be able to sleep sunday night and the tryout is all I can think about. I have practiced so much the whole summer and I have played tennis for 8 years, but I just made it my main sport and I am good but not great. My serve is ok, my forehand is really good, and my backhand is weaker but I can pull it off most of the time. Also I am good at volleying. How do I prepare myself mentally for the tryouts?!!!! Thanks

  1. I'd relax and not worry about it.  It is too late to do anything now.

The coaches are probably looking for overall skill.  You've probably been playing long enough to make the team.  If you don't make the team, you'll learn what you need to improve on.

I'd relax and just play like you're playing for fun (remember it is a fun sport) so, since you're playing because its fun it doesn't matter if you win or lose.  Since it doesn't matter if you win or lose you should be able to sleep.

If you're well rested then you should be fine mentally.

  2. I don't know how to help you relax in the days prior, but I have a little trick that might help as you start to play. When I was going into a big match or to qualify for something, as I started to play, I would narrate my play.

Whoever is your favorite player, let just say Ana Ivanovic, pretend that you are that person.

For example; “Ivanovic about to serve, her opponent hits a forehand, Ivanovic runs, hits a nice backhand down the line for a winner!”

You do that a few times, and you won’t be nervous at all. The reason this works, is because you loosened yourself up by lightening the moment.  It takes your mind off of every little detail you have been worrying about, and let’s your game just flow.

I know this might sound a little dumb to do, but it worked for me, in no time at all, the nerves were gone and I played freely.  Good Luck….

  3. dont be nervous! fight for what ya want! watch this vid! it'll help, for sure. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InWKWymt0... good luck

  4. Since your nervous youe adenaline will have you playing like a pro. And think most of the girls will make the team they need extra for when the girls quit or grades bench them. Maidtate for a while and if you don't make the team it may be a blessing in disscuse and then you might take up a new sport or spend your time with your studies
