Are the notes on the staff the same for Tenor Saxophone as they are for alto saxophone

  1. All saxophones have the same WRITTEN music. However, the alto sax will sound a 4th higher than the tenor when playing the same written notes because the tenor is in B flat and the alto is a fourth higher in E flat. It was designed specifically that all saxophones would share the same WRITTEN notes so as to make it easy for musicians to switch from one instrument to another.
