a .80kg bed sheet hangs from a clothesline on either side makes an angle of 3.0 deg. with the horizontal. calculate the tension in the clothesline on either side of the sheet. show computations please.

  1. depends on the pretension of the clothes line

    the horizontal force created by the sheet is .8*9.81*cos(3deg)=7.837 N

    So you add this to the pretension on one side of the sheet and subtract it from the other.

    3 deg to horizontal means that this clothesline is spinning quite fast, so do mean 3 deg to the vertical?
