Tensions rise in Montreal Canadiens club as Scott Gomez gets burned by coach -NHL Update
With a little over a month left in the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season, tensions are rising in each and every club as they power their way through to secure playoff positioning, but it seems as if the Montreal Canadiens may be facing
a harder time in behind the scene.
During Montreal’s practice session on Tuesday morning, February 14, 2012, veteran forward Scott Gomez and assistant coach, Randy Ladouceur, were reported to have heated up and with the shouting, it seemed as if a fight would be breaking out at any point.
The incident occurred when Gomez “messed up” during an exercise, forcing the coach out of frustration to question whether he was serious at all about performing for the team this season, obviously resulting in a verbal quarrel between the two.
"That's not even the right question," Gomez said.
Seeing his lack of intensity was probably not the only reason which flared the assistant coach but looking at Gomez’s performance this season, it is not hard to disagree with Ladouceur.
Scott Gomez scored his first and only goal of the season against the New York Islanders on February 9, which was nearly a year after his last during the 2010-2011 season, putting him under intense criticism from various circles around the league and fans
as well.
"I screwed up on the drill and he (Ladouceur) let me know about it. ... I'm sure everyone has had their boss yell at them, it's just that mine is in front of a bunch of cameras and that's the way it is," Gomez said after practice.
After the situation cooled down a bit, Gomez realised that it was something that the coach could obviously not control and deemed it to be something that goes on regularly like in any other work place, but questioning his determination towards the Montreal
Canadiens was where he disagreed.
"I'm a professional, I've always been. No one wants to win in Montreal more than me, I'll never let down my teammates," Gomez added.
Montreal Canadiens currently stand at number 12 in the Eastern Conference with 55 points, seven below the eighth spot Toronto Maple Leafs, which makes their upcoming games extremely crucial to the clubs survival later on.
