Teo Kok Siang positive to deliver on his team-event debut at Thomas Cup Qualifying Round
Malaysia’s spirited back-up player, Teo Kok Siang is positive to achieve best results on his team-event debut at the Thomas Cup Qualifying Round in Macau from February 13-19.
Kok Siang has won the confidence of coaches by showing his dedication in the court and is expected to live up to expectations in the qualifying round of Thomas Cup Finals, unarguably the most prestigious team-event championship in badminton.
The young shuttler won the Asian Junior Championships in 2008 and the same year, he also became the junior World Champion in Men’s Doubles category.
Kok Siang, who is 21 years old at the moment, has an attacking style of play which has earned him consideration of coaches. He is determined to prove his selection right by performing well in the qualifying matches for Thomas Cup Finals.
However, Kok Siang, who has been working hard to enter into the arena of elite shuttlers, is very happy and satisfied as he has made the cut by securing a place in the national team for Thomas Cup Qualifying Round.
The young Kok Siang knows very well that the current Malaysian team does not have much strength as compared to all previous squads for Thomas Cup. However, he is confident to deliver his best to help his team to rise on the occasion.
While talking about his selection in the national squad for Thomas Cup, Kok Siang said that he was surprised in the beginning that he has finally made it.
He said, “It took me a while to accept that I had made the Thomas Cup squad. Now, I can’t wait for the tournament to begin. Now, I can go full swing in training just like everyone else. I have pushed the fear of injuring the knee again to the back of my mind. I don’t know who I will be partnering in Macau so I’m just trying to adapt with everyone in the team.”
Kok Siang with his partner Hoon Thien How is ready to take the challenge and is confident to put up superb show of top quality badminton in the qualifying matches.
