Teodor Salparov ruled out of the FIVB World League squad of Bulgaria – Volleyball news
The 28-year-old libero of Bulgarian Men’s National Volleyball Team, Teodor Salparov has been ruled out of 2011 FIVB World League squad on account of a severe knee injury.
The Bulgarian Volleyball Federation disclosed this news from its headquarters in Sofia on Tuesday, April 12. The dynamic player, Salparov was recently playing for one of the most influential volleyball clubs of Bulgaria, the CSKA Sofia. During a session,
he tore his ligament in the knee and suffered the damage.
In an interview to a Bulgarian sports website, Salparov talked about the cause of injury. He stated that he feel victim to a sweat spot on the court. He is currently staying out of the field and looking for a proper physician to seek treatment for the injury.
Salparov said, “I will soon find out when and where the operation will take place, but most likely I will also miss the European Championship.”
This might be called a hard-luck for Salparov as the prime competition, the 2011 FIVB World League is just round the corner and Salparov was determined to showcase his skills on the centre court.
The mega international event of 2011 FIVB World League is scheduled to run from May 27 to July 10, while Bulgaria will be a part of the sixteen-team squad of the World League.
Bulgaria has been placed in Pool B along with teams from Russia, Germany and Japan. In the previous edition of FIVB World League, Bulgaria finished in the seventh slot. The team has big plans for this year and certainly want to improve the ranking.
However, Salparov will not be able to support his team this time. The absence of Salparov will surely have an impact on team’s performance as he has driven his team to major success in a number of events in past.
The head coach of Bulgarian team, Radostin Stoychev will have to go for some other option. Three liberos, Dobromir Ivanov from LUKOIL Neftohimik Burgas, Martin Bozhilov from Marek Union-Ivkoni Dupnitsa and Vladislav Ivanov from Levski Volley Sofia, are under
consideration for the replacement of Salparov.
