Tera Van Beilen clinches Women’s 200m breaststroke gold - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Tera Van Beilen of OAK clinched the crown of Women’s 200m breaststroke on day five of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Saturday, March 31.
Van Beilen faced strong battle from her following swimmer, Martha McCabe in the initial three laps of the race but with her impressive performance, she managed to outshine her challenger on the finishing blockade for gold medal.
With her impeccable swim, Van Beilen proved her mettle for the gold spot by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 24.03 seconds. She was followed by McCabe, who stayed 0.78 seconds slower from her following swimmer and ended her swim in second place by posting
a time of 2 minutes and 24.81 seconds.
The second position holder was trailed by Ashley McGregor of PCSC, who remained almost 1.50 seconds behind her former finisher and posted a time of 2 minutes and 26.56 seconds for third position.
Kierra Smith of LLSC occupied fourth best spot of the discipline as she remained marginally away from her preceding swimmer and hit the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 26.73 seconds.
The fifth spot of the discipline was secured by Annamay Pierse of VAND, who hit the finishing wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 27.14 seconds. Pierse was trailed by Jillian Tyler of CASC, who clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 27.57 seconds and secured
sixth finishing spot of the event.
Tyler was followed by Tianna Rissling of AMAC, who stayed nearly 1.50 seconds slower from her former finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 29.01 seconds to occupy seventh position of the event.
Rissling remained comfortably ahead of her following swimmer, Hanna Pierse of VAND, who ended last in the 200m discipline. Pierse remained 1.20 seconds ahead of her preceding swimmer and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 30.21 seconds for eighth position of
the discipline.
The crowd acknowledged exhausting efforts of all finalists whereas the podium finishers were invited on the victory stand for their wonderful efforts at medal ceremony of the championship.
