Aleksandr Bubnov is of the belief that Spartak will find it difficult to progress to the later stages of the UEFA Champions League if they do not improve defensively
In the latest round of Russian Premier League action, Terek Grozny came from behind to record a memorable 2-1 win over Spartak Moscow at home on Sunday. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Antonio-Ferreira-c6309
scored the winner.
Famous football analyst, Aleksandr Bubnov, has insisted that the Chechens deserved to win against the Moscow-based club on the road and denied the fact that the win was a fluke by any means.
The former Dynamo Moscow player heaped praise on Terek, admitting that they have been in terrific form since the start of the campaign. As things stand, the Nohchi are at the 2nd spot on the league table.
“I cannot call it an accidental win. The Chechens have been playing aggressively and fighting for every point throughout all six rounds of the championship.” The Soviet Cup winner was quoted as saying.
The fact that Spartak recorded their third defeat of the ongoing league campaign under Unai Emery disappoints Bubnov, who believes that the Moscow-based club will find it difficult to survive in the UEFA Champions League’s later
stages.
The Spartachi still need to win the return leg of the play-off round against Fenerbahce after winning the first-leg 2-1 against the Turkish outfit, if they are to reach the group stages of the European tournament.
And Bubnov believes that the Red-whites are not in an optimum shape to play in the continental tournament as they have disappointed their fans with back-to-back below par performances.
“Spartak are not ready to perform in the Champions League. I think they will not go beyond the group stage. They have a very tough game in Istanbul. It is unclear how they will play - given that Emery likes to rotate the squad
very often.” The Soviet Top League winner concluded.
Bubnov urged the Russian outfit to work harder for their upcoming European encounter against the Yellow-canaries, telling them that they can get a good result if they play on counter-attack.
