What is the ethnic ancestry of the actress Teri Hatcher (famous for her work on "Desperate Housewives" and "Superman"). She has an exotic and beautiful look that suggests Mediterranean roots but from what I have been able to learn from the internet suggests, but does not conclusively determine, that her family roots have their origins in England. There have been rumors, not specifically related to her, that certain actors in hollywood have been reluctant to publicize their ancestry, especially since September 11th, if they have Arab roots. For example, the actor Vin Diesal. It is as if their ancestry is a closely guarded state secret. Anyhow, if anyone knows the answer with regard to the question about Teri Hatcher I would appreciate hearing from you as well as the SOURCE from which you obtained your information. Thank You.

My interest comes out of curiousity not out of anything sinister. I know we live in an akward time and people can be overly sensitive and defensive.

According to Wikipedia, Teri Lynn Hatcher (b. December 8, 1964, in Palo Alto, California) is the daughter of Esther Beshur, a computer programmer, and Owen K. Hatcher, an electrical engineer and nuclear physicist.  Her mother is of French, German, and Lebanese descent, and her father is of Welsh and Choctaw Indian descent.  No secrets here--Teri, who grew up in Sunnyvale, California, is an All-American girl.

I can give you some information.  According to a normal published bio, Hatcher is her correct birth name. I know, from my personal research that the Hatcher name and family is among the earliest settlers in Virginia (1600s) and does come from England. There are numerous sources on this.. it is commonly known among ANY researcher, who has roots in colonial Virginia.  This does not deal with any ancestry through her mother's side. A surname alone is not a person's ancestry, however this somewhat applies to what you are asking.  I do not have further information on her ancestry. I don't believe that appearance is any reliable indication of anything.

The rest is my personal comments. I am not aware of any rumors such as you suggest.. this is not to say that they do not exist. I believe that such rumors are totally ridiculous, and ignores the reality that celebrities and movie stars have ALWAYS gone to lengths to protect their privacy, and keep personal lives separate from public.  The number one reason for this is to avoid harassment and invasion of privacy. That is completely valid reason, and not defensive in any way. Celebrities not only may feel irritation at their private lives being seen as "public property"... it has been known to lead to factual danger to themselves and their families.. which HAS included even stalking and murder.

I am not, in ANY way, suggesting that your interest is sinister.  What I am saying, is that your reasoning as to why celebrities protect their privacy, is exaggerated, and ignores  other factors which are commonly understood.
