Is "pet" a romantic term used by a man to wife/gf or can a female friend be referred to as pet? Are there other popular terms?

  1. pet can be used by anyone to someone else.  If a man isn't related to a woman and calls them pet e.g. in the workforce, it can be seen as a bit condesending unless it is 'would you be a pet and ......?' Mostly children and young people are referred to as pet.

    Another is 'love'

  2. pet is a term of endearment, which may be strange to some people hahahha

eg. calling someone chicken is a term of endearment ( and doesn't mean a coward like the way the americans use it)

the best are terms used to describe the wife or husband , funny but used as a mild p**s-take ( like the 'old ball and chain for example)

like... 'Ructions' , 'The Growler' , 'The oil painting' , etc etc

  3. Pet is only romantic between husband wife/gf.  For a man to use it to a female friend is condescending.  It would normally be the woman who would use pet.  The man would be more likely to say 'love'.

Other things that people say are 'honey', 'sweetheart', darling (again this would be condescending if used to a friend or even sarcastic!).   In the old days people would have used 'mavourneen' or 'macushla' or 'alanna' as terms of endearment.

  4. ""how ya love  " "there ya go sweety "
