Question:

Terraforming for solution to global warming?

I've seen a lot of interest in terraforming as it relates to Mars, the Moon and Venus, but nothing concerning lasting climate control on earth. What is the current state of terraforming technology as it relates to applicable changes and controlling the environment? NASA, IEEE and other reputable orgainzations have some research on terraforming but I've not seen anything in terms of controlling the weather and/or countering the effects of solar caused global warming. The best solution I've come across to counter solar caused global warming is to scatter millions of mirrors in space to reflect sunlight, but this doesn't do much in terms of controlling the atmosphere other than to block out heat. If terraforming has advanced to an acceptable state then can it be used to counter global warming and give us the ability to control the weather?

  1. Terraformin is in its infancy, and in fact is only feasable over long periods 500-1000 years, and by a small group of humans (with our technology at the moment). So no good for earth.

Its not the warming thats the problem (well apart from increased tectonic/ volcanic /atmospheric energy. Its the climate reaction to that in the form of an ice age that is the real problem. And one which would throw us back into the dark ages. Or is that ok with the GW doubters

  2. There is no terraforming technology for the earth and I would hope that noone lets alarmist tinker with the earth's warming.  Warming is generally beneficial to anything and everything except those humans that have an irrational fear warming.
