Terrell Owens still optimistic about return to NFL – NFL News
Former National Football League (NFL) wide receiver, Terrell Owens, who is currently playing for the Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League (IFL) has said that he is still optimistic about his return to the NFL and that the IFL is helping him stay
fit and healthy.
The 38-year-old receiver never wanted to leave the NFL in the first place, but circumstances forced him to do so.
However, he is not bothered by what happened in the past and wants to keep his focus on future, which, he thinks, has bright prospects for him.
He said of his experience in the IFL and returning to the NFL:
“Definitely, that is the plan. I’m keeping myself in shape. I’m sure everyone knows I’m playing in the Indoor Football League with the Allen Wranglers.  We’re 5-1 right now and I’m having fun. I’m using it as a way to keep myself in shape to play a few more
years.”
Owens started his professional NFL career back in 1996 with the San Francisco 49ers. After spending eight seasons with the 49ers, Owens joined the Philadelphia Eagles in 2004.
His association with the Eagles, however, was not an ideal one as he was reportedly involved in a lot of controversies and conflicts with his teammates and members of the organisation’s front office.
Consequently, Owens was released by the Eagles and he joined the Dallas Cowboys. After three years, Cowboys released Owens much to his surprise as he alleged that Cowboys’ owner, Jerry Jones, had assured to give him contract extension.
After being released by the Cowboys, Owens joined Buffalo Bills on a one-year contract after the end of which the player signed a one-year contract with the Cincinnati Bengals.
During the last NFL season, he underwent a surgery to repair a torn ACL and when he was given clearance to play again, no NFL team expressed interest in signing him.
He joined the Allen Wranglers of the IFL in November 2011 and is now still eyeing a return to the NFL. In fact, he thinks that playing in the IFL has made him healthy. He said:
“As far as health, I’m fine. I’m just looking for an opportunity. The Indoor League is quicker…it’s faster than the outdoor game. It has enhanced my route running ability. If anything, I’ve benefited from, and noticed how quick coming in and out of my breaks
I’ve become.”
Despite Owens’ claim of being fit and healthy, he is least likely to attract attention of any NFL team.
