Terry Collins focused on series against New York Yankees after sweeping Baltimore Orioles - MLB
New York Mets set sight on series against the New York Yankees, starting on the weekend, after they finish sweeping Baltimore Orioles. Mets will be playing at Yankees’ stadium.
Humiliation dealt on them by the Yankees with a sweep last time had impeded their progress. In this context, the club will like to avenge and in turn give a new shape to their quest in the season.
Series is creating so much hype. The way Mets have completed the sweep against Orioles, fans are expecting replication against the Yankees. Pitchers who threw shut-out games can follow up with the same kind of performance against any team.
The knuckle-balls that have so successfully been employed by R.A Dickey, the Mets’ starter, can lead to a fall of some big-wigs. Notwithstanding Yankees’ offensive fireworks against them recently, momentum being achieved at the moment by the Mets will not
make things easier this time.
Collins terms the series a great test for players. If they can overcome Yankees, it will be one of their greatest achievements in the season. Collins rests his confidence on the Yankees stadium, believing that since dynamics are different there, they will
be having edge, in number of areas.
“It’s a challenge,” Collins said. “When we were [at Yankee Stadium], we let one get away for sure. They were playing great. Our ballpark plays a little different from theirs. It’s a great challenge. Everybody’s going to have to step up.”
Furthermore, Collins stresses the need of winning every game. As and when a team squanders chance for victory, an important point from where a long-winning streak can be built is lost.
“If you don’t take a game that’s close,” Collins said, “you’re going to get swept sometimes.”
Until the series starts, manager will be working out issues that appeared against the Orioles.
Despite the fact they win all three games, few problems with offence had unveiled.
In particular, inconsistency of offence is one of the areas that can result into their disappointment. More often than not, handful of players steps up on the plate and brings hits.
Therefore, diversification in terms of drawing hits from greater number of players will determine the success of their offence.
