Terry Collins talks on a Christmas Trip to his family
Terry Collins is a man who will be very busy next season. The New York Mets manager has the hard task of getting his side to top shape and it does not get easy when the squad is not as strong as the other teams in the league. The
pursuit for success comes at a price and that will be something Terry will have to bear in mind when spring training starts in a few weeks.
The Mets have been at the front of a crisis in the recent months. They have limited resources to spare and one of their coaches was involved in a gambling activity. Collins is continuously feeling the pressure, given that his role
is critical to the organization’s future stability.
General Manager Sandy Alderson was the first person to come to the club. He then selected Collins from a list of candidates who were needed to steer the organization. Terry has the toughest job in the Mets’ hierarchy, as there
were not enough significant players signed on this season.
Nevertheless, Terry is a family man and he would not mind talking about in public. When asked about his plans for the holidays, Terry answered by saying he would head over to Michigan to meet his 91-year-old father. Collins talked
about his father, Bud.
"He's the one who put a glove on my hand for the first time," Terry Collins said. "And all those times when I was growing up, he never pushed. He always wanted me to enjoy myself, and he made it possible. He was always in my corner
during the tough times, to get me through some things that didn't work out my way, and he understood that it's about having fun with things. So I owe him a lot."
Bud Collins, however, passed on the credit to his late wife and Terry’s mother, Choyce. He tagged her as a cheerleader and a transporter for their son.
"She was a real, real backer of him," Bud Collins said. "While I was working, she travelled all over the place to follow him. Our whole family, my three daughters and, of course, myself are very, very proud of Terry, and we're
happy for him to have another chance."
