Terry Flannigan grabs BBBC English super featherweight title after nailing Dougie Curran – Boxing
The undefeated British proud, Terry Flannigan, not only defended his win streak but also collected an impressive unanimous decision win over his opponent fellow countryman, Dougie Curran, and engraved his name on his career’s very first title, in a 10-round
bout held on May 18, 2012.
The duo headlined the bout-stacked pay-per-view which was organised and promoted by Frank Warren and Steve Wood of VIP Promotions. The night was co-headlined by the non-title eight-round bout between Callum Johnson and James Tucker.
The ring for the epic showdown was set up at Bowlers Exhibition Centre situated in Manchester, Lancashire, United Kingdom and put forth the Manchester boxing fanatics an impressive show of resilience and pugilism.
Terry was entering in his career’s 14th bout and boasted an undefeated streak. He has never lost even a single bout and has nailed four of his opponents by knocking them out cold.
Despite having a flawless resume Terry was seriously overshadowed by his opponent’s experience. But to some extent, Flannigan had the upper hand since Curran exhibited a heavily tarnished portfolio.
Dougie, 23, was entering in his career’s 19th bout. The young Briton was only able to nail five opponents and has never collected even a single win by knockout. A very disturbing win ratio accompanied by nil knockout proficiency as compared to Terry’s flawless
resume, were enough to put the odds against Curran.
Also known as ‘The Bullet’, Curran was on a six-bout lose streak and was coming from a draw decision over David Savage. Terry, 22, on the other hand, was coming from an intimidating rather convincing win over Kristian Laight.
The bout started and from the very first round, Curran was nowhere to be found since it was Terry who aggressively attacked the sluggish Dougie and connected a huge number of left-right hooks to Curran’s body and face.
The battering continued till the end of the bout. The power of Terry’s jab can be judged from the fact that in the 10th round Curran lost his senses to some extent and got flattened on the ring floor but somehow Terry was not given a KO win.
This was the very first title bout for both men and Terry held up to the expectations of his hometown fans. With this win Terry has not only become the BBBC English super featherweight champion but has also strengthened his win streak to 14.
