Terry Francona feels honoured as the St. Louis Cardinals interview him – MLB News
One of the leading candidates for the managerial responsibility of the St. Louis Cardinals, the former Boston Red Sox manager, Terry Francona, expressed his satisfaction on Wednesday, November 9 over the interview he was called for.
He commented that he was honoured to be interviewed. While Ryne Sandburg was also called in for an interview, Terry Francona is considered to be the leading name that can get the approval of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Whatever the outcome of the interview, however, Terry Francona stated that not only was he honoured but also enjoyed himself for having been called for the interview by the St. Louis Cardinals. He commented that whatever the Cardinals decide, he will respect
their decision.
"I enjoyed myself," Francona said by phone. "I was honored that they asked me to go. Now it's kind of the hard part. You wait and see. They're going to have decisions to make for their organization. Whatever they do, I'll respect.”
He was of the view that there were similarities between the Boston Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals as the latter have a great tradition of baseball.
"It was a couple-hour meeting, it was pretty casual, over lunch," Francona said. "Baseball is still baseball. They have a lot of tradition, like the Red Sox. There's a lot of similarities. I feel how I feel. I just tried to make that be known.
The slot became vacant after Tony La Russa announced his retirement as the manager soon after the scintillating victory that the St. Louis Cardinals scored in the 2011 World Series.
After having spent a memorable time in the Boston Red Sox, whereby he guided the team to the winning stand twice, once in 2004 World Series which was the first one since 1918 and then in 2007, this is an ideal opportunity for Terry Francona to utilise.
However, the 2011 regular season was a major fiasco not only for the Boston Red Sox but for Terry Francona himself as the team floundered even after having had a nine game lead in the standings. It will be interesting to see if Francona is selected and what
possible impact he may have on the Cardinals for the 2012 regular season.
